It’s about time
we share our
stories and tell
our truth.

It’s about time we say Black Lives Matter. It’s about time we hold ourselves accountable. It’s about time we take action in our company. It’s about time we fight for equity in our industry. It’s about time Black designers have a clear path to leadership roles. It’s about time Black designers can safely bring their authentic selves to work.

Nigel has been a leader in software, technical transformation, and design since he founded one of Austin’s first digital product consultancies in 1996. Since then, he has worked with local startups, government institutions, and enterprise organizations to lead various technology and design efforts across dozens of industries at every scale.

Prior to IBM, he was the Austin studio leader for Adaptive Path, one of the original user experience design consultancies. While serving on its senior leadership team, he helped clients achieve delightful project outcomes that were thoughtfully designed by world-class cross-functional teams.

Nigel joined IBM in April 2014 and has been delivering leadership in service of scaling the impact of design and design thinking across the enterprise. His initial role was to drive the adoption design thinking with IBM’s newly created strategic imperatives. Next Nigel took on the IBM Studios program, which is IBM’s physical expression of our human-centered approaches around the globe. After that, Nigel focused on scaling IBM’s accessibility mission, inspiring the enterprise to more authentically expand its focus on inclusive design. IBM Accessibility provides leadership, tools, and services to help IBM teams bring differentiated offerings to market for all people, regardless of ability.

Currently, Nigel serves as the Design Director for Digital Growth and Commerce and Finance & Operations Support Experiences. In his spare time, he’s the chairperson for IBM Design’s Racial Equity in Design initiative and the voice of this podcast.
